talking to a concrete wall and the wall becomes my friend bouncing back every rubber ball that i’m trying to throw away the ground’s a flimsy plastic and the ceiling’s manufactured but i’ve come to see that this wall of concrete is simply a force of nature and it’s not what the wall says back to me it’s all the time i’m waiting for a word to reach my ears cause i am so sure i know where it will be i’m braced to be an optimist i manifest my belief i exist a little thought like a splinter digs its way under my skin i pick at it out of boredom and it burrows deeper in the skin grows back around it and i‘ll forget about it soon then when i’m staring at the clock it‘ll be here with me in my room i’m throwing a ball i see it demonstrating speed until it meets a concrete wall it won’t return to me did i throw it right this time or was i off again i’m picturing the path this ball could take to find my hand i’m closing my eyes because what i see deceives me i’m focusing my mind and i am willing it to be and it doesn’t really matter what the wall says back to me it’s all the time i’m waiting for a word to reach my ears cause i am so sure i know where it will be i’m braced to be an optimist i’m pretty sure i exist at least i think

about

from Nathan: "in 2020, during the early days of the first lockdown, i wrote a song about a wall. in the time that i couldn’t spend working, hanging out with friends or traveling anywhere, i discovered that playing handball is really fun. i started to spend a lot of time at the park on my corner which i had never actually been to pre-covid. though those days, overall, really sucked, getting to know that wall a little better was nice. this is a song about becoming friends with concrete while wondering if i still exist."
